Using VMs for development
#131427 - 11/17/07 02:05 AM

Just got a new PC and instead of installing all of the stuff I usually have, I'm thinking of doing most of this in a VM environment. Most of the stuff I need is probably covered in one of those LAMP type appliances you can get from VM Ware's site and just using the player. For other stuff, I might use Virtual PC and some of the old Windows install CDs I have.

Anyone use this type of set up at home? At work we use this stuff constantly but we just use VMs on a remote server so it's just like any other server you don't see.

Yes, I do 95% of my Windows emulator development on XP running in VMWare Workstation (running on 64-bit Fedora). Everything works pretty much as you'd expect except there's no D3D or OGL, and performance is quite good.
