PHP IDE & TDD
#100441 - 01/27/07 11:58 PM

Does any here use an IDE for PHP that they would recommend? I tend to just use a text editor and feel like I'm probably making my life unnecessarily difficult. For a change.

Also, I'd like to use PHPUnit or equivalent to try and write in a more structured way. Hard to ditch my scripty ways... Anyone use this for PHP?

Don't suggest using Java, etc as I'd rather this be more fun

I used NuSphere phpED, but I don't remember if the version I used was "free". They have a free version, but I'm unsure if I tested a slightly warezed version or not. It has a few odd things, but you can integrate a debugger in it, and debugging php is *fun* (as oppossed to not debugging it and try to discover where the bug relies by reading the source for the nth time).

Thanks! 14 days... Hmm... Maybe when I have a bit more time to play.

The stuff you were doing, was it PHP 4 or 5?

I don't remember a 14 days limit, maybe that's in current versions. There was a free version with limited functionality IIRC.

It was php 4 as it's pretty much the standard nowadays in the hosting servers around. I found 5 to be too cumbersome about the transition from mostly procedural to mostly (and forced) object programming. However, phpED is fully compliant with php 5.

I tried Codelobster Php edition (www.codelobster.com).Convinient enought, small, free. As in any text editor there is all standard features for work with code.
Highlights paired tags and brackets.

There is Find & Replace dialog, an intelligent autocomplete for php and html, context and dynamic php, Mysql, HTML help.
And debugger. Works correct.

I use the latest version of that IDE.
