I recommend you a nexus 10 or newer nexus 7.
Top hw and run mame4droid very well.
Samsung OS updates are few.

Strange.
Do you have enabled tilt sensor? Disable it.
If not, try to do a full uninstall. Delete CFG folder besides rom folder as well.
