Yes indeed, I was going to post that. The site BoingBoing mentions has now been slashdotted into oblivion. Also, it looks like they will be posting all kinds of analysis for other games, so it's going to be a good resource for fans of Don Hodges' work.

When they come back up, it's here:

VIGASOCO by Manuel Abadía (of MAME fame) includes a C++ implementation of Pac-Man that should behave virtually identically to the original.
It basically contains the original algorithms (Z80 assembly) rewritten as C++ source code.

Way cool and a labor of love if you ask me!

Hah, good reminder of VIGASOCO, thanks.

There's some interesting emulators out there too that ended up with pretty much the same thing, the original algorithms re-coded into C/C++. I'll go dig them up again. I seem to remember Neil Bradley and someone else was to blame.

I remember Neil posting something like this to the old MAMEDEV mailing list some years ago, but wanted to keep it a secret at the time. Guess it isn't such a secret anymore, but I found it pretty fascinating at the time. Neil is a mad genius. I wonder if he's still around...
