I bought an SSD.
#293406 - 08/07/12 01:48 AM

I bought a Samsung 830 series 128GB SSD. My boot time went from 53 seconds to about 30 seconds. That is from a cold start and going through the BIOS.

HDD portion of Windows experience went from 5.4 to 7.7.

My motherboard is SATA 2 (3Gb/s) not SATA 3 (6 Gb/s).

This probably isn't needed if you did a clean install of Win7, but if not, you might want to check it out...

I actually restored a Ghost image of my C Drive. It went without a hitch. I figured there would be problems because the partition is smaller.

I will probably just use the Samsung software. I already have defrag off. Since Device Manager installed a drive, trim should be on. I need to turn off indexing. I am still restoring files from a Ghost image to my newly wiped and partition HDD. I am also going to move My Documents to the D drive. The main thing that will be left on the C drive is the OS and programs.

Anybody ever compiled MAME on an SSD? I don't know if that would speed things up or not.

Isn't that a no-no? Don't you lose the sector alignment when cloning?

Or am I confusing things.

Ghost 15 is aware of the correct alignment.I think Windows 7 does the correct alignment anyway. Is there a way to check?

It's aligned..

Code:

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 119 GB 1024 KB

1024KB = aligned.
